The Daily Egyptian

After a year away from journalism during the COVID-19 pandemic, I stepped back into the newsroom with the Daily Egyptian in the fall of 2021. Since then, I’ve been working with the award-winning sports desk, writing weekly features on Saluki athletics as well as keeping up with game coverage for a Division I school with 15 sports.

While I am officially a “Sports Reporter”, some of my work has ventured outside of that realm, especially recently. While there are some gray areas, for the purposes of this page, I will categorize “non-sports” stories to include anything that is only sports-adjacent. They’re some of my best stories, so be sure to check them out!

    Weekly Features

Every week, I have put together a story to run in the print edition of the Daily Egyptian. Whether it’s sports-related or not, it’s a showcase of my ability to write on a consistent basis. Stories inside range season previews, reviews, check-ins, to non-sports events like “Starbucks on strike” and #EmSettStrong. Photo by me (Brandyn Wilcoxen).

    Saluki Athletics Coverage

Every Saluki game, match, series, tournament, whatever, gets assigned to one of the sports writers to provide same-day coverage. This section hits a variety of sports, with an emphasis on Saluki men’s basketball and football, especially in 2022. Photo by Angel Chevrestt.
